We believe in the power of movies: of stories' abilities to empower empathy, alter perspectives, and invite kinder and more hopeful imaginations of the future. In this monthly movie club, we pledge to screen movies that explore narrative frameworks outside of the white, patriarchal, heteronormative, capitalist, colonialist, and imperialist hegemony. We will prioritize independent voices and marginalized identities, and we hope to open viewers' minds to the possibilities of a world where we will all be free.

Anti-Racist Movie Club was created in July 2020 by a group of queer film enthusiasts of color in Los Angeles, CA. We were and continue to be frustrated by the way Hollywood and the mainstream entertainment industry ignores our experiences, or otherwise capitalizes on the struggles of marginalized people for relevancy and entertainment but not for collective liberation. We host free screenings (both virtual and in-person) and post-screening discussions about each movie, and we publish interviews with people of color who work at every level of the film industry. Our content will always be free to the public because we believe that educational materials should be accessible to everyone.
